Slim porcelain stoneware has quite recently appeared on the marketplace. In order to obtain the 100×300 cm slabs of a predefined thickness, the source materials undergo molding. Then these slabs are cut into smaller tiles and decorative pieces. The minimum thickness of slim porcelain stoneware products is 3 mm. Such materials are primarily designed for internal and external facing. For flooring in the light traffic areas, slim porcelain stoneware slabs are reinforced with mesh, so that tile thickness reaches 3.5 mm. As regards such heavy traffic areas as shopping malls, coffee houses and restaurants, the manufacturers recommend installing 5.5 mm thick porcelain tiles, also reinforced with mesh for outstanding strength. Interestingly, slim porcelain tiles may be installed over the existing flooring (tiles, stone, wood, laminated flooring), which significantly facilitates the repair work. What is more, the large slabs of 100×100 and 100×300 cm ensure jointless installation. Owing to the minimum thickness and low weight (1 sqm of slim porcelain stoneware weighs just 8 kg), this material is used for the interior decoration of yachts and cruise liners. No wonder that the choice of slim porcelain stoneware collections is being expanded day by day.
