Questions & Answers Subscribe

Opus, developed by Raffaello Galiotto for Lithos Design, was presented in 2014 at the I Saloni exhibition in Milan. The collaboration between Raffaello Galiotto and Lithos Design dates back to 2007. The remarkable fact is that all the most sensational collections of this Italian brand are conceived by his creative genius and extraordinary technical insight. The fount of inspiration for Opus is in the mosaic Roman floors. However, instead of traditional squares, the patterns of Opus are composed of the multishape marble pieces.

The stone slabs of 60×60 cm are inlaid with many-colored marble. The ornaments and decorative pieces of Opus diverge from the classical canons of stone inlay. Instead of the flowing sophisticated lines, Galiotto offers the modern shapes – sharp, bold and sweeping, enhanced by the riot of colors.

One of the key features of the series is that it embraces the grades of marble quarried in 25 countries all over the globe. According to the designer concept, this geographical versatility creates the mesmerizing atmosphere of affinity with all parts of the world. For instance, Verde Giada is procured from the PRC, Travertino Rosso – from Iran, Bianco Tacoc – from Greece, Nero Marquinia – from Spain, Azul Makaubas – from Brazil, etc.

In order to support the collection, Raffaello Galiotto has created a spectacular installation of the varicolored marble: "Opus Motus – The moving colours of stone". The structure consists of six circles covered by the stone inserts.

Triggered by the lever, the circle starts rotating. The colors alternate like in a magnificent kaleidoscope. As far as rotation accelerates, the colors mix to yield original shadings and overtones.

All colors and geometric shapes of Opus Motus are developed using the RGB additive model. Inducing the burst of colors and shapes, this ingenious installation reveals the optical effects never seen before.
